Preparing for Your Survey: A Simple Guide for Our Clients
To ensure we can conduct a thorough and efficient thermographic survey, a little preparation from your side makes all the difference. By working together, we can ensure the process is smooth, safe, and provides the most accurate results possible.
Here is a simple checklist of what is needed to get the best outcome.
Ensure Systems are Under Load
This is the most critical requirement for an effective survey. Thermal anomalies only become visible when equipment is running and drawing an electrical current.
Action: Please ensure your electrical systems are operating at a minimum of 40% of their peak load, though normal to peak operating conditions are ideal.
Why it's important: Surveys conducted during quiet periods or after-hours downtime will not reveal potential faults. The equipment needs to be working to generate the heat signatures we need to detect.
Provide an On-Site Escort (Highly Recommended)
While not mandatory, having a member of your electrical or maintenance team accompany our thermographer is extremely beneficial.
Action: If possible, please assign a staff member who is familiar with your electrical systems to be with us, at least for the initial part of the survey.
Why it's important: An escort helps us locate panels quickly, clarifies the specific loads involved, and provides an immediate point of contact for your staff. This collaboration minimises delays and ensures any critical faults can be pointed out directly to the staff responsible for corrective action.
Arrange for Full Access
Our thermographers need safe and clear access to all the equipment being surveyed.
Action: Please arrange for access to all relevant areas, from the main supply point and switchboards to distribution boards, machine control centres, and minor panels. This may include organising site induction, security clearances, or access keys ahead of our visit.
Why it's important: Unobstructed access allows us to work efficiently and safely, respecting your site's protocols while ensuring no critical component is missed.
Notify Relevant Personnel
Action: Please advise any relevant managers, tenants, or department heads about the date and time of the upcoming survey to ensure our presence is expected.
Why it's important: Good communication prevents surprises and ensures a smooth workflow with minimal disruption to your daily operations.
Please Note: A thermographic survey is non-disruptive and does not normally require any interruption to your power supply.
Taking these simple steps helps us work more efficiently, which shortens our time on-site and ultimately allows us to provide the most cost-effective service to you.
